Mojang just realesed happy ghast so it means ghast are a living creature but ancient builder's put that in there while their unconscious t so they have that mechanic thing inside them
As he says the sound from ghast are crying and scream so it mean their are suffering and the happy ghast dont shoot fire balls bc they dont have a machine inside them

So the ancient builders are a monster

Mate this theory is easily disproven by….. minecraft legends, the EARLIEST POINT OF TIME IN MINECRAFT, a ghast was seen in the nether before the first portals were opened, and ghasts are not ghosts because of how souls work in the nether and the happy ghast, if a soul is in the nether it gets trapped in the soil and turns into aoul sand, ghosts are impossible in the nether because of that, and ghasts have also been proven to be solid bacause of the happy ghast, there is a theory called:"the nether ice age" by game theory which has loads of evidence supporting it and nothing in the game disproves it, which means that theory is more likely to be true, because this theory has already been disproven by the game itself.

I have a theory. When the Nether used to be a thriving Ice scape, ghast roamed regularly. Then the Old Builders discovered the Nether. They saw the potential of the resources they could harvest from the land and started performing cruel experiments on the ghast in the many Nether fortreses. The result of these restone experiments gave the ghast the ability to shoot fire balls. They then enslaved ghast in order to optimize mining and patrolling operations throughout the Nether. This would explain why they came to hate us so much. They eventually turned on the Old Builders, attacking them with the ability they had been given the from the result of the restone experimentation. The Old Builders ended up destroying the ecosystem of the Nether due to all the resource gathering and explotaion of the land, turing the Nether into a barren hellscape. Ghast still roam the Nether suffering from what the Old Builders did to them and their home. This would also explain why happy ghast can't shoot fireballs as they would've never undergone the cruel redstone experimentation of the Old Builders. They would've been born into the broken remnant of the Nether after the Old Builders had long disappeared.

Ignoring this theory mine is considering that ghastlings need snow balls to grow and dried ghast need to be in water for 20 minutes so I conclude Nether was previously frozen
