I’ll be honest I’ve used the latest version (chat gpt-4); I was impressed. I had made a few web dev based requests such as “generate a complex react-bootstrap page” or “complex html css & js page” and when it did the results were prolific because of how instantaneous they were. However, chat gpt has its limits and it just extracts from an existing repository of data (however huge) but it can’t exactly…synthesize new data. SWE’s are often used to create new software so we still have tenability in the workforce. That dynamic can change a quarter of a century from now; be prepared.

Programmers won’t be starting off making $100k anymore lol

Us programmers are fretting a lot but don't forget its freaking coming for everybody…. receptionists, teachers, accountants, data scientists, logistic managers, anybody in customer service etc etc etc sure it can write code but that's just a small part and most jobs require only a brain and a mouth (plus emails)… and everyones going "Im going to lay bricks instead"… nope! The robots will.

If you look at who's screaming, they are all web front-end and web content. If you are webdev, you are already dime a dozen. I think AI will leverage RAD tools, not replace back-end dev or compiled apps. Now, produces trash which matches blue chip IT right now. Trash. Code detritus.

What jobs in software that will not be replaced by AI, that is not a AI researcher?

People forget that software engineering isn't just writing code. So I welcome AI lifting some of the code writing while I can focus on the architecture.

See here's the thing. It's not far from the future that programmers are also replaceable by A.I. Hell, i think such A.I. already exist. But, does that mean we should? ABSOLUTELY NOT. No sane person is gonna allow it. Even if machines do replace humans, we can't allow complete control of society to be handed over to machines. By having ai program ai, we will basically be doing that, and that's terrifying and stupid.

I think AI can replace those whose are insufficient.
